Changes to the Use Classes Order 

 

The Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) (Amendment) (England) Order 2005 together with the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (Amendment) (England) Order 2005 came into effect on 21st April 2005. They changed some of the existing Use Classes and how they operate.

 

The main change split Use Class A3 into three separate classes. These are:- 

A3 Restaurants and cafes for the sale of food and drink to be consumed on the premises.

 

A4 Drinking establishments which include public houses wine bars or other drinking establishments.

 

A5  Hot food takeaways for the sale of hot food to be consumed off the premises.

 

Planning permission will not now be required from Use Classes A3, A4 or A5 to use classes A1 (shops) or A2 (financial and professional services).

 

Certain other changes are included in the Orders.
